East Lake Library

Recognizing the changing needs of modern library patrons, the Minneapolis Public Libraries took a new approach to urban library design. The Lake street commercial corridor inspired this library’s retail-themed street façade, designed to showcase the many cutting-edge resources the new library offers. The extensive glass street wall offers views into the library’s business center, as well as the tech kiosks and the in-house café, all included to draw in a broader public and expand the role of the library past academic research and leisure reading.

In addition to the public face of the building, this 16,800 SF renovation remapped the existing space, opening it up to daylight and integrating technology alongside the printed media. Staff offices were rearranged to meet current needs, security was improved, and the old HVAC system was replaced.
