The Highland Recreation Center is a renovation and a creative expansion within the existing foot print and a collaborative partnership between the library and the recreation center. A new shared main entry provides accessible access to the Library and Recreation Center and connects this community resource to the existing urban fabric. Repurposing of the existing street level parking ramp into a vibrant Teen and Express Center brings programs, life and convenience to the retail corridor. During the design process the LSE team worked with teens from local schools to develop a new “Maker Space” concept to be incorporated within the Teen Center and Co-programmed by the library and recreation center.
