This renovation focused on the library’s central role in the community, taking its already significant popularity and pushing the design to spread this vitality outward. The library’s street frontage was being wasted by continuous blank wall, so the renovation opened this up, at once improving the interior atmosphere and advertising the library resources to passers-by. Tenant spaces were also developed within the library building, with independent access from the host library.
Within the library, a special focus was made on teens, manifested in a large Tech Zone as well as a more comfortable and inviting childrens’ area focused on early literacy. Lighting and HVAC systems were updated to improve the sustainability of the library, both from an environmental and maintenance cost perspective.
